The Best Herb (Compound) Butter

Herb butter or compound butter is extremely easy to make, this one is easy, but is flavorful! I added it to my Oven Roasted Turkey Recipe, and the magic it does for a Turkey is unbelievable! You can use this herb butter for many other recipes, ( steak, Mashed potatoes, seafood, vegetables, that will take your recipes from good to over the top greatness. Fresh herbs are always better to use in compound butter, but in a pinch dried works just as well.

You Will Need

  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary (2 tsp dried)

  • 2 sprigs thyme (dry thyme 1/2 tsp)

  • 4 garlic cloves

  • 3 Sticks Salted Butter

  • 1 tsp Pepper

Directions

  • Bring 3 sticks salted butter to room temperature. 

  • Mince fresh Rosemary, Thyme and Garlic

  • Add them and the pepper to butter and mix well combined. 

  • Put mixture back into refrigerator until hardened.

  • Scoop the herb butter onto a piece of waxed paper

  • Shape it into a log by rolling it in the paper. Wrap the herb butter tightly and refrigerate. (or freeze)

  • To defrost butter faster, cut it into thinner slices or smaller pieces

  • Butter 

  • Herbs such as: Garlic, Rosemary, Thyme, Honey (sweet compound butter) Chive & Dill 

How is Compound "Herb" Butter made?

  • Homemade herb butters are easy to make and fun to serve. Spoon the butter into a butter mold or shallow bowl or roll it into a log with parchment paper and serve it sliced or as pats.

Can you use salted butter?

  • I used salted butter for the recipe above, you just want to make sure you don't add anymore salt to it if you use salted butter. 

How do you know what herbs to use for Compound Butter "herb butter"?

  • You can use smaller amounts of herbs especially if your herbs are  strong tasting herbs such as sage and rosemary; be a little more generous with the amount you include when the herbs are more mild one like parsley or chives.
